Judith Lynn Deters was born on Earth Day April 22, 1949. Judy passed away on May 9, 2002 at the age of 53. At her funeral my uncle asked me if my Mom had ever published the children’s book she wrote. I had absolutely NO idea what he was talking about.
On March 5, 2020 Bryan and I drove from downtown Chicago to our river cottage for the weekend. Then the pandemic hit. We were in lockdown along with the rest of the world. I am a hairstylist, so my work life didn’t exist anymore. I had no distractions to take my mind off the fear of losing my business and everything in between. One day I was walking from the kitchen into the living room when my husband gently put his hands on my shoulders. He said to me, “How can I help you fill your hole?” We decided to remodel the basement so I could have a salon to see clients when the time was right. As we began working in the basement, I decided to purge and reorganize. There were 5 boxes I had been dragging along with me since my Mom passed. I decided what a perfect time to go through them.
When I started going through the first box it contained things I’d never seen before. Including lots of items from my Moms childhood like letters, pictures etc. As I continued to work my way through the box, I came across some papers that were stapled together. Quietly I began to read the typewritten words. There were edits made in pencil along with the date “3/14/77” four days shy of my first birthday. After finishing the story I called my uncle and read it to him. He said, “That’s the story.” I then walked into the living room and read it to Bryan. He teared up and said, “You sound just like your Mom.”
It is true, I am my Mothers daughter. Judy taught me to look for the beauty in people and nature. Judy taught me life is an ADVENTURE and our primary purpose is to spread joy and happiness to others.
Thank you Mom for helping me complete your dream. You’re probably dancing across the Milky Way and welcoming everyone who arrives. I love you. I miss you. Sending you eskimo and butterfly kisses!
Kindness, acceptance and love. I hope you all find your land of YPPAH.
Imagine jumping on a Bumblebee and zipping off to another land! You and your best friend buzzing through the universe, exploring and laughing all the way! This gentle-hearted book is about two young girls finding their magic within themselves.
I am excited to share this magical, loving, and courageous story about two girls finding their power within themselves. Since I was a little bitty, adventure, exploration, and imagination have been my superpowers! Adventures are only sometimes planned. Sometimes, they come to find you and help you explore new things. If you trust and let go, the freedom of adventure awaits you, too! This book inspires you to see all the beauty around and within you.
Growing up in Milwaukee, WI, I was raised by a single mother who instilled a lust for adventure in me. After graduating from Cosmetology school in 2002, I set my sites on Chicago to pursue my dreams. In 2005, I packed up my Honda Civic, along with my cat Zoie and we moved to Chicago. On January 7th, 2007, I opened Norayne's Studio Salon. After waiting 6 years, I was accepted into the Motion Picture Union Local 476, becoming a hairstylist, working in Film, TV, Theater, and so much more, has been a dream come true. May of 2023, I opened a second salon in St Pete Beach, FL. I'm a Pisces, so being by water is my happy place!!!
My wish for you is to never stop dreaming and exploring! Sometimes, the beauty is hidden in the cracks. Let the adventures continue for us all.
P.S. Never stop wishing on the stars in the sky....
XOXO
Norayne
